Alan Greenspan was born on March 6, 1926 in New York City. He has been Federal Reserve Board Chairman since August 11, 1987 when he took over for the then popular Paul Volcker. Greenspan is well respected and given much of the credit in helping to orchestrate the longest running expansion in U.S. history.

Alan Greenspan is a banker first and foremost. He gave up the riches of Wall Street to operate inside the confines of the Federal Reserve Board, and he has refused pay raises on occasion stating that he earns enough. He  likes music, enjoys tennis, and is the consummate economist; at times he looks to box manufacturers instead of the popular statistics to give him some added insight on the strength, or weakness in the U.S. economy.

Greenspan likes to keep investors on their toes; spilling out rhetoric and innuendo that can often rattle the global financial markets into frenzy. As the U.S. economy slows, and a possible recession arrives, Mr. Greenspan's largest challenges are ahead of him.
